Many people think they know keto, have done a ketogenic diet, have been in ketosis.

But have they?

If it hasn’t worked for you then you probably haven’t been in “proper” ketosis – i.e. where your body’s fat is the source of the ketones, rather than the meal you just ate, the butter in your coffee, the double cream on your strawberries.

Here I’m talking about therapeutic ketosis – where your the energy that fuels your body and brain is coming from your fat stores  – what joy when you know that’s happening!

It’s not easy to do properly, and that’s why people get disappointed.  The go through keto flu, but they never persevere, or follow the correct “rules” to get fat-adapted.  A shame, as that’s where the magic happens.

Long-term ketosis brings huge health advantages – for instance to people with cancer.  For, while the body and brain love ketones for fuel, tumours can’t use them.  So, with very little glucose around, the tumour shrinks.
